The NECC is waaay more than a fitness center. It's a neighborhood fun and learning center for all ages. People have been coming to this historic community institution for generations.

The Northeast Community Center is a not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the quality of health and life in our community. We provide a safe, clean environment where Portland residents of all ages and backgrounds participate in recreational, educational and physical activities in a climate of mutual respect and friendship.

The NECC staff and volunteers serve a diverse and involved membership whose needs are met through programs that strengthen our community.

Resolve to Do it Better with NECC!
Do it Better is a game designed to teach players healthier ways to eat, work out, communicate, and live. Teams earn points for sanctioned meals each day, working out, changing a bad habit, learning a new habit, communicating with others, and more… all in a spirit of friendly competition!
 
 

 

In the end, participants lose weight, gain self confidence, pick up great new behaviors, and have fun doing it. Unlike a “diet,” that is unlikely to work and often unhealthy, the Do it Better program teaches new ways to approach food and activity to develop better lifestyle skills…. oh, and beat other teams for a good confidence boost. Need another piece of incentive? PRIZES! Each week the team with the most improvement gets to pick fro the prize box, and the team with the highest score at the end of the game wins a special prize!
